The founders came together over a shared desire to apply the diverse visual, material and production influences from their careers in fashion, art and architecture to a world that hadn’t seen much innovation - the world of sheets and towels.

Adhering to Mies Van Der Rohe's manifesto "God is in the details”, Cleverly goods have been meticulously designed. We mitre every corner and hem every edge of our towels. We use superfine cotton with fibres of a certified, extra-long length that mean our fabrics are the highest quality, the softest, the most absorbent and quickest to dry.

To ensure every aspect of our goods meet Cleverly standards, we’ve created two exceptional fabrics from scratch: terry towelling and a soft, flat cotton. We specified the yarns, the twist of the loops, their length, the washing temperatures, the timings, and tested multiple variations until they were perfect. We work tirelessly with an exceptional production team in Portugal to maintain the specific qualities and standards that make Cleverly products so special.

Cleverly products are deliberately designed to age well and improve with use. They evolve to a colour that is relaxed and full of character, the fabrics become softer and the towels will become more absorbent after the first few uses. Sustainability is built in with the long life span, as is the feeling of comfort that having a well-used favourite item brings.

All Cleverly products are designed to be functional workhorses that you can live with no matter how you live.

Portugal is one of the world's historical centres of textile manufacturing and a leader in innovation, sustainability and ethical practices today. Having our in-house production based in Portugal is a vital part of what makes Cleverly different because it means we work directly with an expert local team who understand the traditional techniques we combine with innovations of our own.

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification is an independent third-party certification. Every component of Cleverly, every thread and button, has been tested for over 100 harmful substances and is certified harmless to human health.

We use eco-dyes certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) in our Cleverly products. GOTS dye is much more controlled and less harmful than a conventional synthetic dye.
